I'm.
Still.
Awake.
Seriously, folks, I'm not sure what to do here, but obviously this isn't a problem I can solve myself. I'm starting to doubt my ability to complete simple tasks without falling asleep (during the day only, of course).
Why the hell is this happening!?
Someone please hit me over the head. Hard.

Jen, I feel for you...definitely get back in the workout cycle, helps the body adjust, probably part of why you're lacking sleep. Also if you can swing it, try getting a massage...they work wonders in helping the body relax. Then go home, light some relaxing scented candles, put on some soothing music and pick up a good book...preferably something that holds the attention but isn't edge of your seat...read for a bit then crawl under the covers and just relax...don't focus on the not sleeping, try not to think...I know, all easier said than done. I'm hoping you'll sleep soon.
'Zilla, I was in a horrible insomniac cycle last month. I was so foggy, I felt like I couldn't even drive safely home from work a few evenings. First, I tried to release the stress that was affecting me, through exercise, or talking about it, or something. Then, I gave up coffee. Cold Turkey. Some tea is ok, or an occasional diet coke. I took Tylenol PM over one weekend, and that helped a little but mostly left me too groggy to be effective. Also, I stopped eating around 8 PM, period, and switched my workouts to the AM. Can you schedule a day for yourself where you just try to relax around the house, then head to bed -- not too early, not too late. I know how miserable this is, and I hope you get through it SOON.
Wow, your insomnia beats anything I've had. What is it with grad school and insomnia? If it gets really bad could you try sleeping during the day, just to reset the system? Again, I've got no experience with this level of insomnia. Take care and be careful.
Jen,
I am sorry about you tiredness. What i do that seem to work is if today I didn't sleep. I make sure i stay awake during day time..(loud music, coffee etc.) and sleep early. That seem to fix my body back into a regular sleeping routine.
I hope you feel better..
